Degrees and the Real world
Unless you’re aiming for a career in academia, almost every working professional will tell you the same thing: what they studied in college vs. what they’re doing today don’t really match up. And I’ll say the same.
Our current exam system, question patterns, and even the syllabus often feel disconnected from what’s required in the real world. It’s impractical to expect that just scoring well in these unpredictable exams will guarantee us a job. Yet, we’re all under constant pressure, stressed about questions that make no logical pattern, marks that feel random, and placements that are rarely based on our real skills.
But here’s something to remember: Education should be seen as a way to introduce you to the world; it gives you a theoretical overview, like the poster of a movie. Internships, projects, side projects, and hands-on assignments? They’re like the trailer. The real movie of your career unfolds when you step into the real world and learn to navigate it.
So, don’t let a few missed marks or confusing exams break your spirit. Your numbers are just one small part of a bigger picture. What makes you stand out is:
- knowing what you’re passionate about,
- having a ‘can-do’ attitude,
- and picking up practical, meaningful experiences along the way.
The job market may be tough, but adaptability, real skills, and clarity of purpose matter way more than any percentage on paper.
